On December 8, 2018, the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of NJ hosted their second annual Winter Gala at the Legacy Castle in Pompton Plains, NJ. The event kicked off with a beautiful cocktail reception followed by an awards presentation honoring the remarkable contributions made by business, civic and community leaders. The Winter Gala was the culmination of a busy and successful year for the SHCCNJ. Nicoll Davis & Spinella is not only proud to have been an event sponsor, but also to serve as Outside General Counsel for the Chamber this past year.
As the voice of the 119,000 Hispanic businesses in NJ and all those who serve them, the SHCCNJ is committed to communicate important issues and positions, create new partnerships, and build new opportunities for the community. Carlos Medina, Chairman of the SHCCNJ, said that “having Governor Phil Murphy address the participants as Guest Speaker, made it clear that he is behind and fully supports the efforts of the Statewide Hispanic Chamber and the Hispanic Community.”
The SHCCNJ presented three special awards at the Winter Gala:
• Latino Trailblazer of the Year: Stella Nolasco, fashion designer;
• Hero Award: Edgardo Mirando-Rodriguez, comic artist and creator of the superhero “La Borinquena”; and
• Nonprofit Leader of the Year: Ana Montero, American Red Cross, recovery executive officer.
“The SHCCNJ presents these prestigious awards each year to extraordinary and visionary persons, as well as corporate and government advocates,” Medina said. “The awards are based on those who have contributed to and who have demonstrated exemplary excellence and leadership in their professions.”
Actor, philanthropist and United State Marine Corps combat veteran J.W. Cortes served as master of ceremonies.
